Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that the state has seen a rise in kidney ailments over the past four years due to consumption of fish farmed in Nagaon and Morigaon. He accused producers of using harmful substances for fish farming. This statement follows tensions after a gang rape incident involving youths from the minority community.
