With the central government set to recruit 10 lakh people over the next one-and-a-half years to fill up the nearly 9.79 lakh vacant posts across all ministries and departments, junior minister Jitendra Singh on Thursday told the Rajya Sabha that all posts deemed abolished upon remaining vacant for more than 2-3 years may be revived based on functional justification. Singh, in reply to another question, stated there are currently 1,472 vacancies in the IAS and 864 in IPS.
