The Union Cabinet on Saturday approved promulgation of the Fugitive Economic Offenders Ordinance, 2018, aimed at empowering authorities to attach and confiscate proceeds of crime — changes in law which will have implications for absconders like jewellers Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi and former liquor baron Vijay Mallya.
