Why China doesn’t trust Uighurs

China is home to an estimated 23 million Muslims, belonging to various ethnic groups such as Hui, Uighur, Kazakh, Dongxiang, Kyrgyz and Uzbeks. The mainland majority is Han Chinese, the dominant group. Huis account for the majority of Muslims and are mostly settled in Ningxia, a region close to Inner Mongolia; and are better tolerated by China.
