Government aims to make India self-sufficient in pulses by December 2027, reducing import dependence and promoting crop diversification. Union Minister Amit Shah launched a portal for co-operatives Nafed and NCCF to buy tur dal from registered farmers. Farmers can sell their produce at minimum support price (MSP) or market price through the portal, with proceeds going directly to their bank accounts. This initiative will also be extended to other pulses like urad and masoor, as well as maize. The move aims to enhance soil fertility, conserve water, and ensure nutritional security.
